My first protest against the use of QR codes
Shaka Webber | May 16, 2025
In the colorful land of "Markétia", every tool had a job.
There were:
• Linky the Hyperlink, who lived in emails.
• Banner Bill, who stood tall on websites.
• And Insta Ivy, the superstar of social media posts.
But then… there was Quincy QR.
Quincy was a shiny, square-shaped code with dreams bigger than a billboard.
“I just want to help people get to the right place fast!” he’d say.
So Quincy set off to find the perfect job. But… Quincy had a problem.
His first stop was the Smoothie Shop Window
“Hi! I’d like to work here!” Quincy beamed.
The owner slapped him onto the front window.
But customers just walked by. Nobody stopped to scan Quincy. “They’re driving by at 35 mph, Quincy,” the owner sighed. “They don’t have time to pull out their phones.” Sad and sticky from the window, Quincy moved on.
Quincy got an idea! a Digital Instagram Post “Social media! Now this is my moment!” Quincy grinned. He jumped onto a brand’s Instagram ad with fireworks and glitter. But… nobody scanned him.
Why scan a code on a phone… with another phone? Linky the Hyperlink rolled her eyes. “That’s my job, bud.” Embarrassed, Quincy slid off the screen.
His third stop was a fancy Business Card at a networking event, Quincy found himself printed on sleek, glossy cards. “This is professional!” he said, adjusting his pixel corners. But the cards ended up in pockets… drawers… trash cans. “No one even looked at me!” Quincy cried. A wise old NFC chip patted his shoulder. “You’re useful, kid, but you’ve got to know where you belong.”
He walk to the end of the street and found a Pizza Place Takeout Box. Quincy was tired and hungry. He plopped down on a pizza box.
“Hey, what’s this?” a customer said, scanning him. The QR led to a “Leave Us a Review” page, and the customer smiled. “That was easy!” Then someone else scanned him.....for a coupon!
Then another.....for allergy info! Quincy’s pixels glowed. “I’ve found it,” he whispered. “This is where I belong.”
And From That Day On…Quincy learned that he wasn’t useless, he just had to stop showing up where he didn’t belong.
Now, he helps people:
• Scan takeout menus.
• Leave quick reviews.
• RSVP to real-life events.
• Get coupons from flyers and posters.
And every time someone points their phone at him in the right place, Quincy smiles.
Because being useful is better than just being everywhere.
